Nature's Disappearing Worshippers

Altai Republic - Russia 2013

In the mountainous Republic of Altai, Siberian locals have long beheld Nature and God as one. Twice a year, they sacrifice a ram and hold a rite thanking Nature and praying Nature to be clement. The decreasing number of native speakers of Altai language is creating amongst throat singers and shamans a sense of responsibility. Shamans believe that their spiritual relationship with nature is key to solving environmental issues our planet faces.
