Tindi, Dagestan 2012
From 1883 to 1903, Hungarian mountaineer Moriz von Déchy made a series of expeditions to the Caucasus. On one occasion, he brought back a photograph of Tindi, a remote mountain village in the muslim region of Russia called Dagestan. One hundred years later, Tindi benefited from some Soviet tourism, but this brief and relative prosperity was abruptly stopped by the wars in Chechnya and subsequent regional insurgency.
